The awesome Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren supercar was a top attraction at this year's 2004 British Motorshow. A pair of these beautiful cars, together with an engine / transmission assembly occupied the whole of the Mercedes McLaren display stand; and what a display it was.

SLR McLaren Drive Train

This layout of the SLR's engine and drive train show just how far back the V8 engine is located relative to the front of the car; Imagine the front wheels under the air scoop, and well in front of the car's engine block, and you can see that it really is a front-mid engine layout designed to give brilliant handling responses, without the tail heavy characteristics of rear mid and rear engine layouts. The SLR may be just one of a number of new Front-Mid layout cars, but without a doubt it's one of the very best.

Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Styling

The SLR is an amazing looking car - every single detail is bold, and yet it flows beautifully from nose to tail. It's unmistakeably Mercedes and yet it proudly stands apart from the rest of its marque with a more aggressive, cutting look compared to even the AMG vehicles.

From every angle the car's styling is perfect. Convex and Concurve shapes intermingle, without any of the brashness demonstrated by some other marques.

And those amazing doors bring back memories of the Gull Wing models. They're the only thing that's at all retro on the whole car, but they don't look at all out of place.
